The 26 Ocea Jigger ∞ (Ocea Jigger Infinity, 2026 model) is a third-generation slow jigging rod released in Japan in August 2026. If unsure, take the core B65-3: 137g, jigs 120–280g, list price JPY 72,000 (excl. tax).

The Gear Nerd's Pick

A slim slow taper with the bending fulcrum moved toward the hand is a shape for moving the whole rod a lot with little effort. The parts that tend to get weak are tightened with Spiral X Core and Hi-Power X. So if one rod has to cover inshore to mid-deep water, I choose the B65-3.

How I judged it

With the eye of someone with 30 years of fishing and a long time jigging, what matters in a slow jigging rod is not strength but "does it bend easily and come back properly".

The third generation is even slimmer, with an even slower taper. The bending fulcrum moves toward the hand, and it bends like a bow right to the front and back of the grip. This is the good part. Even small movements make the whole rod come alive and kick the jig up. But slimmer and softer tends to bring twisting and lack of power. That is tightened up with Spiral X Core and Hi-Power X.

Of the 11, the B65-3 is the core model covering inshore to mid-deep water: up to 100m+ for fast jigging for blue-water fish, and 230m+ for slow jigging. The most versatile first rod. My pick is the B65-3. A buy.

What changed from the previous model?

  • Blank: slimmer and slower taper. Nearly 10 kinds of material blended in one rod to smooth out steps in the bend
  • Reel seat: the newly developed Full Holding Seat R. Slim, long at the back, with a waist and a larger trigger
  • Prototypes: more than 1,000 prototype rods and on-the-water tests

For the reel seat, Shimano tried more than 100 shapes, covering not only hand sizes but also combinations with the Ocea Conquest 200–300 and Jigger 1000–4000. The larger trigger keeps your fingertips from hitting the end when gripping with four fingers, and you can grip it like a gun grip with your wrist straight, so it tires you less over long jigging sessions. A big improvement over the previous model.

Tester Hiroto Yamamoto says he used the previous model for about 6 years and listed what to refine for each model. The theme: "the whole rod bends in a natural, linked way".

As the model number rises, how do weight and drag increase?

Comparing the three inshore rods.

ModelJig max ÷ weightMax dragPE
B65-2230 ÷ 137 = 1.684kgPE #2 max
B65-3280 ÷ 137 = 2.045kgPE #2.5 max
B63-4350 ÷ 145 = 2.416kgPE #3 max
Numbers as listed on Shimano's official Japanese page on Oct 18, 2026. The divisions are my own calculations. Max drag is the line tension value at a rod angle of 45°.

The B65-2 and B65-3 both weigh 137g. Yet the B65-3 takes jigs 50g heavier and has 1kg more drag. Same weight, wider range. A better deal. For a JPY 1,000 gap, take the B65-3.

How does it differ from other slow and jigging rods?

Daiwa's Saltiga SJ TG 58B-3 is 1.73m long, weighs 136g, takes jigs of 200–400g and costs JPY 78,000 (excl. tax). It is 23cm shorter than the Infinity B65-3 and leans toward heavier jigs. For working deep water in fine detail with a short rod, the SJ TG; for big movements from a longer rod, the Infinity.

The character differs. The Saltiga J HIGHRESPONSE from the same autumn is a spinning rod for fast jerks. If your fishing is mostly slow jigging that lets the jig swim slowly, the Infinity suits you.

Things to watch

This part is so-so. It starts at JPY 69,000 (excl. tax). It sits below the top-end Limited, so to keep the budget down, the Motive lower in the series is another option.

On a boat, wear a life jacket and check your equipment against Japan Coast Guard guidance.

Who is the 26 Ocea Jigger ∞ for?

  • Anglers who want to start slow jigging from inshore to mid-deep water with one rod (B65-3)
  • Anglers targeting hairtail, rockfish or red sea bream with lighter jigs (B65-1, B65-2)
  • Anglers handling heavy jigs on trips or in deep water (B63-5 and up)

To compare with Daiwa's new rods, see the Saltiga SJ TG review and the Saltiga J HIGHRESPONSE review.
