The UVF PE Dura Sensor X12 EX+Si3 is a Daiwa 12-strand PE released in Oct 2026. The 150m spool starts at JPY 6,200 (excl. tax). A buy for anglers willing to pay for casting distance and low line noise.

The Gear Nerd's Pick

The heart of the X12 EX+Si3 is its line skin, braided dense from 12 strands and then smoothed. The smoother the surface that meets the guides, the less resistance the line pays out with and the quieter it winds. That is why I pick it as the line to buy for distance on every cast and for quiet.

Key points

  • Released Oct 2026. 150m is JPY 6,200–7,000 (excl. tax)
  • #0.8 is 16lb, 1lb stronger than Daiwa's own X8
  • 5C: 5 colors every 10m, with a mark every 1m

When is the PE Dura Sensor X12 EX+Si3 out, and what does it cost?

It goes on sale in October 2026. There are two colors, Lime Green and 5C (5 colors every 10m), and three spool lengths: 150m, 200m and a connectable 100m.

For Lime Green 150m, #0.4–2 is JPY 6,200 and #0.3 and #0.35 are JPY 7,000; 200m is JPY 7,700 (excl. tax). The 5C 150m is also JPY 6,200. The connectable 100m comes in #0.6–15 at JPY 4,900.

How I judged it

With 30 years of fishing, a boat license and a fishing instructor certification, the first thing I looked at was the strength of #0.8. 16lb (7.3kg). Daiwa's own X8 EX+Si3 in #0.8 is 15lb, so the 12-strand is 1lb stronger.

Next I divided out the price. For 150m of #0.8, the X12 is 6,200 ÷ 150 = about JPY 41.3 per meter and the X8 is 2,840 ÷ 150 = about JPY 18.9. A gap of more than double. That is big. Per lb of strength too, the X12 is 6,200 ÷ 16 = about JPY 388 and the X8 is JPY 189.

Even so, my pick is the X12. One reason. The extra money goes not into strength but into the skin of the line. For anglers who cast far and mind guide friction, or who mind line noise when reeling, I judged the gap worth paying for.

How is it different from the X8 EX+Si3?

The difference is the strand count and the surface. The X12 is a square-braided 12-strand, built to resist flattening and abrasion. On top of that, the EX finish smooths the line surface, and Daiwa claims casting distance, quietness, less fuzzing and fewer line troubles.

The coating is the same Si3 as on the X8. It is a silicone coating that Daiwa says gives about 1.3 times the abrasion resistance and durability of Si2. Its abrasion resistance rests on the same base as the X8.

Where does it sit in the Dura Sensor lineup?

The X12 EX+Si3 is a braid Daiwa calls "Muscle PE," the densest line in the Dura Sensor range. It stacks four technologies.

The first is UVF, which braids the base yarn while compressing it to raise abrasion resistance and strength. The second, Tough PE, uses thick, nearly round base yarn. The third is the Si3 coating. The fourth, Muscle Braiding, is a tight braid that reduces breakoffs and trouble.

It is a top-tier line with a big step up in quality. The build lets you say so outright.

What does a 12-strand braid do?

Braid the same size from 12 strands and each base yarn is thinner than in an 8-strand. The more thin strands you pack densely, the rounder the cross-section gets and the smaller the surface bumps. In theory, it meets the guides more smoothly.

PE sizes are a thickness standard, and strength varies by maker and build. That is why the same #0.8 differs, 16lb for the X12 and 15lb for the X8. How to think about sizes is in how to choose PE line sizes.

How do I choose the size and spool length?

For #0.8 for sea bass or eging, take the 150m Lime Green or the 5C. The 5C changes color every 10m from yellow to blue, red, green and purple, with a yellow-and-black mark every 1m and a long yellow at each 5m. If you want to count how far you cast and how deep it sank, the 5C is handy. A line you can count with.

If you want more line on the spool, take the 200m. A 200m spool of #0.8 is JPY 7,700, and 7,700 ÷ 200 = JPY 38.5 per meter. That is about JPY 2.8 cheaper per meter than the 150m.

For boat jigging, take the connectable 100m. From #2 to #15 the price is the same JPY 4,900, and the thicker the size, the better the value. A size sticker is included, so stick it on the spool and you will not forget which size you wound (not included with the connectable).

Things to watch

This part is so-so. Price per lb of strength is more than double the X8. For anglers who only want to buy strength, it is expensive. The gap is large.

If you want strength and price in balance, the X8 EX+Si3 is another route. I wrote where the X8 stands in our ranking of six #0.8 PE lines.

Who is it for?

  • Anglers who want more reach on every cast, for sea bass or surf
  • Anglers who want less line noise when reeling on night trips
  • Anglers who use one line for a long time and put weight on low fuzzing

Leaders to pair with it are lined up by size in our ranking of fluorocarbon leaders. Other new releases are in the fishing gear release calendar.
