The DF-6326 is a Daiwa floating vest with built-in foam buoyancy, released in Oct 2026 in Japan. List price is JPY 28,400 (excl. tax). A buy if you want a vest to wear over thick winter layers on a breakwater or rocky shore.

The Gear Nerd's Pick

The heart of the DF-6326 is its combined jacket-and-vest system. It does not bulk up over layers, so on cold days you actually keep it on. That is why I pick it as the vest to wear on every winter shore trip.

Key points

  • Released Oct 2026. JPY 28,400 (excl. tax)
  • Buoyancy 7.5kg for 24+ hours, weight about 0.9kg
  • Has the CS JCI mark (L2). No Sakura Mark shown

When is the DF-6326 out, and what does it cost?

It goes on sale in Oct 2026. List price is JPY 28,400 (excl. tax). It comes in 3 sizes (M, L, XL) and three colors: black, red and light gray.

Buoyancy is 7.5kg, held for 24 hours or more, and it weighs about 0.9kg. Inside is the CS JCI mark (L2), which shows the vest passed the Japan Craft Inspection Organization's performance appraisal.

How I judged it

With 30 years of fishing, a boat license and a fishing instructor certification, the first thing I looked at was when you would wear it. The DF-6326 uses a combined jacket-and-vest system that does not bulk up over a thick mid layer. It is built for winter breakwaters and rocky shores.

Next I checked for a Sakura Mark. The product page shows no Sakura Mark or type. If you wear it on a small boat, choose one with the Sakura Mark, which meets national safety standards. I treat the two uses separately.

I do not hesitate. For winter shore fishing, the DF-6326 is my pick. Foam buoyancy means no gas cylinder to replace, and you can keep your tackle on you while wearing it. My judgment is that a vest you actually feel like wearing every trip matters most.

How is it different from the inflatable DF-2724?

DF-2724Inflatable (waist belt)About 0.5kgSakura Mark Type AJPY 22,500
As listed on Daiwa's official Japanese pages for the DF-6326 and DF-2724 on Oct 18, 2026. List prices exclude tax. Both offer 7.5kg of buoyancy for 24 hours or more (the DF-2724 when inflated).

Doing the math, the weight gap is 0.9 − 0.5 = about 0.4kg and the price gap is 28,400 − 22,500 = JPY 5,900, with the DF-6326 higher on both.

What that gap buys you is buoyancy with no inflating, and more pockets. That is the big part. An inflatable needs its gas cylinder replaced once it has inflated or when it expires. A foam vest needs no such upkeep.

The DF-2724 inflates both automatically and manually. At about 0.5kg it is light and sits at the waist, but after it inflates or expires you keep swapping the cylinder and sensor for a set kit. Knowing that before you buy makes the choice clear: upkeep, or weight.

What about the pockets and build?

There is a zippered chest pocket for a small case. At the waist is a large pocket that takes a case of about 10×15×4cm, and its double slider opens from the top or the bottom.

The zippers are rust-proof resin. You also get a pin-on reel holder, a towel loop inside the hem, a whistle inside, reflective tape on the shoulders and mesh vents under the arms. The crotch strap keeps the vest from riding off your body if you fall in. An adjuster tape tightens the waist.

It is built right down to the details of an angler's hand movements. Split small items between chest and waist and you open your bag less often. On a rough rocky shore, keeping both hands free matters a lot.

The outer fabric is recycled and water-repellent. Water-repellent is not waterproof, and it weakens with use. On rainy days, plan on wearing rain gear over it.

How do I choose a color?

It comes in black, red and light gray. If you want to be found after a fall, I take red.

Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism lists easy-to-spot colors such as yellow and orange, reflective tape and a whistle as traits of a Type A jacket. The DF-6326 has reflective tape on the shoulders and a whistle inside. Since you can pick the color, choosing a bright one counts for a lot. If unsure, go red.

Sakura Mark vs. Type A: what is the difference?

The Sakura Mark is the sign of a life jacket that the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has tested and confirmed to meet safety standards. Since February of Heisei 30 (2018), everyone outside the cabin of a small boat has had to wear a life jacket that meets the national standards.

Type A can be carried on any small boat and has buoyancy of 7.5kg or more. On boat days, choose one with the Sakura Mark. Five waist-belt and shoulder-style jackets with the Sakura Mark are lined up in our life jacket ranking.

Things to watch

This part is so-so. At about 0.9kg it weighs nearly double an inflatable waist belt. For long walks on hot summer days, the light inflatable is easier on your body. You can also split them by season, summer and winter.

It comes in just 3 sizes, M, L and XL, so smaller anglers have a narrow choice. Decide what you will wear underneath first, then pick the size.

Who is it for?

  • Anglers who want a vest over thick layers on winter breakwaters and rocky shores
  • Anglers who want fewer gas cylinder swaps and inspections than an inflatable needs
  • Anglers who want to carry small items in pockets and move nearly hands-free
  • Anglers who want a vest with shoulder reflectors and an inside whistle for dark breakwaters before dawn
