The 26 Tournament Surf 45 is a buy if you want both long casts and fast retrieves for kisu surf fishing. It goes on sale in October 2026 at a list price of JPY 109,000 (excl. tax). It is the 10th generation after the 19 model, and the spool is 10% larger.
The Gear Nerd's Pick
The heart of this reel is a spool whose diameter is widened by 10%. Line taken up per turn is set by the spool circumference and the gear ratio, so a wider diameter extends the retrieve even at the same gear ratio. That is why I put the reason for paying the JPY 41,000 gap on this 74mm.
Key points
- Out Oct 2026. List price JPY 109,000 (excl. tax)
- Spool front lip 74mm. A 10% larger diameter than before
- The HG05PE takes up 113cm per turn. Winding 100m is about 88.5 turns
When is the 26 Tournament Surf 45 out, and what does it cost?
On Daiwa's official page, it is released in Oct 2026. There are 2 part numbers, the HG05PE and 06PE, both at a list price of JPY 109,000 (excl. tax).
| Item | HG05PE | 06PE |
|---|---|---|
| Weight | 410g | 410g |
| Gear ratio | 4.9 | 4.1 |
| Per handle turn | 113cm | 95cm |
| PE line capacity | #0.5, 250m | #0.6, 250m |
| Practical strength | 15kg | 15kg |
| Spool front lip diameter | 74mm | 74mm |
| List price | JPY 109,000 | JPY 109,000 |
For the drag side, the spec table lists a practical strength of 15kg.
How I judged it
As someone who likes reading spec sheets side by side, the first thing I looked at was the line taken up per handle turn. The HG05PE's 113cm is 27cm longer than the 86cm of Daiwa's own Surf Basia 45. Dragging kisu is a repeat of reeling and stopping. This gap counts.
What I weighed was the price. The gap is JPY 41,000. Even so, for anyone who wants both long casts and fast retrieves, the 26 Tournament Surf 45 is a buy. The reason is the spool. It is built differently.

Daiwa calls this 26 model the 10th generation. A long-running name. Three things changed: the spool, the rotor and the bail.
- Spool: the MAXSIZE SPOOL with a 74mm front lip, 10% larger than before
- Rotor: the first AIRDRIVE ROTOR on a cast-only reel. Daiwa says weight is held to the same as the 19 model despite the bigger size
- Bail: with the AIRDRIVE BAIL, the bail diameter is 25% smaller
The spool lip shape LC-ABS has also been improved, and the maker says casting distance grew by about 5%. The stopper lever is 3mm longer.
Why does the retrieve come to 113cm?
The line taken up per handle turn comes close to the spool circumference times the gear ratio. The circumference of 74mm is 74 × 3.14 = 232mm. For the HG05PE, 232 × 4.9 = 1,137mm, which nearly matches the official 113cm.
The 06PE is 232 × 4.1 = 951mm, which matches too. Widen the diameter by 10% and retrieve per turn grows about 10% even at the same gear ratio. The maker's explanation is about casting distance. But it helps retrieve speed too.
The relation between gear ratio and retrieve length is also laid out in numbers in how to choose a reel gear ratio.
HG05PE or 06PE: which should I pick?
I compare how many times you turn the handle to wind 100m.
| Part number | Per crank | Turns for 100m |
|---|---|---|
| 26 Tournament Surf 45 HG05PE | 113cm | 88.5 turns |
| 26 Tournament Surf 45 06PE | 95cm | 105.3 turns |
| Surf Basia 45 06PE | 86cm | 116.3 turns |
The gap is about 17 turns. Big. For probing far with thin #0.5 PE, the HG05PE; if you want to match a slower winding speed, the 06PE.
The red spare spool that comes with it is 7.5° and #0.5-250m on the HG05PE, and 6° and #0.6-250m on the 06PE.
Which to buy, this or the Surf Basia 45?
The Basia 45 is a cast-only reel that Daiwa writes carries over the distance and rotation of the 19 Tournament Surf 45. The 06PE lists at JPY 68,000 (excl. tax) and weighs 405g. The weight gap is only 5g.
The difference is spool angle and bearings. The Basia has an LC spool with a 2° taper, and Daiwa explains that the larger the angle, the farther it flies but the more line troubles you get. Ball bearings are 8 versus 11.
For kisu numbers fishing with lots of retrieves, the 26 Tournament Surf 45. If you want fewer line troubles and a lower budget, the Basia 45.

This part is so-so. The new spool does not fit past reels. In reverse, the 45mm spools you already own fit the new body.
The bearing count is not written consistently either: the spec table says "11/1" while the description field says "11 in total (all CRBB)". I read it as the 1 roller being counted separately, but there is no official explanation.
Who is the 26 Tournament Surf 45 for?
- Anglers who want both long casts and fast retrieves for kisu surf fishing
- Anglers who wind 250m of PE #0.5–0.6 and use it
If you are unsure about main line thickness, reading how to choose PE line sizes first makes it easier to decide.
Getting both long casts and fast retrieves is the 26 model's biggest appeal. For anglers who wind thick PE or nylon, or who do not want to spend over JPY 100,000, there are other ways to choose.
