The Morethan TW PE is a buy if you narrow your sea bass baitcasting reels for PE long casts down to 1. Released Oct 2026, list price JPY 68,100 (excl. tax).
The Gear Nerd's Pick
The heart of this reel is a spool that gives up nylon and fluorocarbon. Daiwa explains that the curve of the bottom and sides is brought closer to vertical to neaten how PE lays on. That is why I recommend this one only to anglers who keep casting PE around #2.
Key points
- Out Oct 2026. List price JPY 68,100 (excl. tax)
- 20g lighter than the Saltist 150, a gap of JPY 23,200
- Winding 100m takes 104.2 turns. Nylon and fluorocarbon not allowed

How I judged it
The first thing I looked at was the warning. A PE-only spool; nylon and fluorocarbon cannot be used. This is where the buyers clearly split.
Next I lined it up against Daiwa's own sea bass Saltist. What I weighed was the JPY 23,200 gap. Even so, it is a buy for anglers who keep throwing far on PE #2. The spool shape and the brake are set for PE from the start.

What the official page gives is a description of the build. The maker explains that it fitted a newly shaped spool made with PE in mind and a drag click that many had asked for. The handle is a 110mm aluminum crank.
Where does the money go in the build?
The hot part is how the pinion is supported. Both ends of the pinion gear sit on two ball bearings, one of which is a Mag Shield bearing that keeps out water and foreign matter. The maker explains that it winds lightly even under load.
The clutch has an insulated structure, and the page says it cut repair cases of salt seizing by 99% by the company's own comparison. That matters for a baitcasting reel used at sea. The frame is metal.
The spool is G1 duralumin. The maker's figure is about 1.3 times the strength of extra-super duralumin.
How does the Morethan TW PE differ from the Saltist?

| Model | Weight | Gear ratio (line retrieve per crank) | Max drag | List price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Morethan TW 150XH PE SPECIAL | 200g | 8.5 (96cm) | 5kg | JPY 68,100 |
| Saltist TW 150XH PE SPECIAL | 220g | 8.4 (94cm) | 6.0kg | JPY 44,900 |
| Saltist TW 100XH PE SPECIAL | 200g | 8.1 (86cm) | 5.5kg | JPY 36,300 |
Compared at the same size 150, the Morethan is 20g lighter and JPY 23,200 more. The cost of shaving 1g is 23,200 ÷ 20 = JPY 1,160.
Winding speed is about the same. To wind 100m, the Morethan takes 10,000 ÷ 96 = 104.2 turns and the Saltist 150 takes 10,000 ÷ 94 = 106.4 turns. The price gap is paid not for speed but for lightness and the number of bearings.

RecommendedSee it on Rakuten IchibaRetrieve length is set by the spool diameter
The line taken up per handle turn is set almost entirely by spool diameter × pi × gear ratio. For the Morethan, 3.6cm × 3.14 × 8.5 = about 96.1cm. That matches the official 96cm.
A gear ratio of 8.5 feels too fast on numbers alone. But with a 36mm spool, one turn stays under a meter. As a sea bass baitcasting reel, it lands in just the right place.
Things to watch
This part is so-so. Max drag is 5kg, lower than the 6.0kg of the cheaper Saltist 150. That is a loss.
Line capacity is PE #2 for 200m and #3 for 130m, the same as the Saltist 150. Even on how much it holds.
Mind the spare spools too. A genuine 36mm-diameter, 24mm-width spool is interchangeable, but there are no compatible custom parts for now.
One more thing. The MAG-Z BOOST brake is built for throwing mid to heavy lures rather than light ones. I read the brake mechanism in detail in the Zillion TW 150 review, which carries the same brake.
Who is it for?
- Anglers who wind PE #1.5–3 and cast far with mid to heavy lures
- Anglers who want size 150 kept to 200g
What PE size to wind can be decided from strength in how to choose PE line sizes.
Fitting a size 150 into 200g is the best thing about the new TW PE. For anglers who also want to use nylon or fluorocarbon, or who mostly use light lures, there are other ways to choose.
