With 30 years of fishing and an instructor's eye for jigging, I ranked these on three things: weight, price, and jig weight and PE range. No. 1 is the Major Craft NEW Solpara SPSJ-1002M, at 255g and JPY 13,700 (excl. tax), lighter than the JPY 20,000-range Colt Sniper BB (266g) and Dragger X (262g). If you can add budget, I'd take the 206g Crossride 5G.
The Gear Nerd's Pick
Shore jigging rod weights aren't in order of price. All five sit in the same band, 10ft and jigs up to about 60g, yet the cheapest rod is lighter than two of the JPY 20,000-range rods. So I compare weight first and look at price after.
Key points
- The Solpara is JPY 10,800 cheaper than the BB and 11g lighter
- The lightest is the Crossride 5G at 206g
- The jig limit is about 60g on all five. Only the Dragger X goes to 70g
A JPY 10,000-range rod is lighter than JPY 20,000-range rods
I lined up 5 shore jigging rods at 10ft in M power by their official spec tables. The cheapest is the Major Craft NEW Solpara SPSJ-1002M at JPY 13,700.
It weighs 255g. Shimano's Colt Sniper BB S100M is JPY 24,500 and 266g. The pricier rod is 11g heavier.
That surprised me.
How I chose
What I looked at first was weight. Lightness comes first. Shore jigging is cast, then jerk, jerk, and you lift the rod very many times, so I put lightness first.
Next, using the cheapest Solpara as the baseline, I calculated how many grams each extra yen saves. What I struggled with was whether to make the lightest, the Crossride 5G, No. 1, but its price is 2.7 times the Solpara's, so it is No. 2. This ranking covers current models you can buy on Rakuten, and I ordered them by the official numbers.

RecommendedSee it on Rakuten IchibaSee it on Yahoo! Shopping JapanWhat a beginner should check first on a 10ft shore jigging rod
If I were choosing a beginner's first rod, I'd look at only these three things.
- Whether the jig limit is around 60g. All five fit here
- Weight. In this band it runs from 206g to 266g, a 60g spread
- The PE sizes it takes. All five go up to 2.5, and only the Dragger X has a lower limit of 1.5
Length is fixed at 10ft. How much weight changes against 9.6ft is in the FAQ at the bottom.

Why this order
| Rank | Model | Reason for this rank |
|---|---|---|
| No. 1 | NEW Solpara | JPY 13,700 is the cheapest of the 5 rods, and it is still 7-11g lighter than the 2 rods in the JPY 20,000 range. |
| No. 2 | Crossride 5G | 206g is the best of the five, but the price is 2.7 times No. 1's. |
| No. 3 | Colt Sniper SS | At 244g it has the most build explanation, but it is only 38g heavier than No. 2 and JPY 4,000 cheaper. A close call. |
| No. 4 | Dragger X | The range of jigs up to 70g is the best (No. 1), but it is 7g heavier than No. 1 and JPY 10,300 more. |
| No. 5 | Colt Sniper BB | 266g is the heaviest of the 5 rods, and the gap to No. 4 is JPY 500 and 4g. A close call. |
No. 1 Major Craft NEW Solpara SPSJ-1002M | 255g in the JPY 10,000 range
What decides it is lightness: even in the JPY 10,000 range it is 11g lighter than the JPY 20,000-range BB and 7g lighter than the Dragger X. That is strong. It also has Fuji's K-guide frames, which reduce line tangles. The warranty, which extends to three years with web member registration, is reassuring.
It suits anglers who want to keep a first rod in the JPY 10,000 range.
No. 2 Major Craft Crossride 5G XR5-1002M | Lightest at 206g
206g is a lightness that leads No. 3 and below by 38g or more. Jigs are 20-60g and PE is 1.0-2.5, the same band as the Solpara. Light.
But the official page has no explanation of the blank or guide build. This part is so-so. One for anglers worried about the stamina for jerking all day.

The blank is wound with both Spiral X and Hyper Power X, the joints are twist-locked Screw Lock Joints, and the front grip has a V-shaped cross-section V-Hold. Of the five, it is the rod with the most build explanation.
Watch out for the price: it is only JPY 4,000 different from No. 2, yet 38g heavier. A pity. It suits anglers who want to match everything to Shimano.

The jig column reads 20-70g, listing the heaviest jig of the five. A wide range. Daiwa says it tuned the rod so it doesn't tire you after long hours of jerking. Naming the target as small pelagics from mackerel and sagosa up to 3kg is clear, too.
The so-so part is the PE lower limit of 1.5, which rules out anglers who want to wind size 1.
Daiwa Dragger X 100M
Lowest price on Rakuten: JPY 16,555 (as of Oct 14). Some stores go up to JPY 22,353. Prices change daily.

Hyper Power X in the blank, stainless-frame K guides, and double-foot guides from M power up. As Shimano's entry point, the build is honest.
But 266g is the heaviest of the five, 11g heavier than No. 1, the Solpara. This part is plainly so-so. Being able to choose the 3-piece S100M-3 (262g, 109.7cm) is a plus for anglers who carry it on a train.
Shimano Colt Sniper BB S100M
Lowest price on Rakuten: JPY 17,773 (as of Oct 14). Some stores go up to JPY 26,950. Prices change daily.
RecommendedSee it on Rakuten IchibaSee it on Yahoo! Shopping JapanThe "X" winding that resists twist
Shimano's Hyper Power X and Daiwa's Braiding X both wind carbon tape in an X pattern around the outside of the blank. They say it holds down the twist that happens when casting and fighting a fish, and cuts power loss. In short, it stops twisting.
Daiwa writes that it adds strength while keeping the blank slim and can reduce the feel of weight in the hand. A heavier rod is not always a stronger rod.
Unranked: upcoming rods, and rods outside 10ft
Major Craft's NEW First Cast FCSJ-1002M is listed on the official page as "due Oct 2026." At 222g, jig MAX 60g, PE 1-2.5 and JPY 8,300 (excl. tax), on numbers alone it is 33g lighter than the Solpara and JPY 5,400 cheaper, which really stands out. I'll wait until it can be bought on Rakuten and then decide whether to rank it. For now it is unranked.
Daiwa's Dragger MX 103M is 10ft 3in (3.12m), 240g and JPY 29,500.
If you mostly use lures lighter than 35g, you are in seabass rod territory rather than shore jigging. The seabass rod 96ML ranking compares them.
If you fish from a boat, there is also the Saltiga J HIGHRESPONSE review and the Saltiga Bull Chopper review of the new jig.
Who is it for?
- Anglers who throw jigs up to 60-70g on a 10ft M
For jigs over 70g or big fish, you could choose the Dragger EX, out in Oct 2026. If you carry it on a train, check a transport length around 157cm first and you'll be at ease.
