The 26 Tierra IC 150H (2026 model) is a Daiwa baitcasting reel with a line counter, released in Japan in May 2026. List price JPY 48,000 (excl. tax), 230g. A buy if you want one reel to cover SLJ and light jigging.

The Gear Nerd's Pick

The core of the 26 Tierra IC is wider gear teeth for more winding torque. The wider the contact face of the teeth, the less the rotation falters under the load of winding a heavy jig, so the same reel handles light to heavy. So for inshore jigging, I choose the 150H with its 70mm single handle.

Key points

  • Released May 2026. All 6 models JPY 48,000 (excl. tax)
  • 150H: 230g, gear ratio 7.1, 80cm per crank
  • 40g lighter and JPY 25,800 cheaper than the 25 Tierra IC 150H-C

When is the 26 Tierra IC released? How much?

Released in Japan in May 2026. All 6 models have a list price of JPY 48,000 (excl. tax). There is the 150-DH with gear ratio 6.3, and the 150H and 150H-DH with 7.1, each also in left-hand versions.

What changed from the previous Tierra A IC is the gear. The teeth were widened so it can produce more winding torque than before.

150H230g7.1 / 80cm70mm single
150H-DH235g7.1 / 80cm130mm double
As listed on Daiwa's official Japanese page on Oct 18, 2026. The three left-hand models have the same numbers. All hold 400m of PE #1 or 200m of #2, with 6 ball bearings and 1 roller and 5kg max drag. List price JPY 48,000 (excl. tax).

How I judged it

With the eye of someone with 30 years of fishing who also jigs, what matters on a small counter reel is the gear. The 26 Tierra IC uses HYPERDRIVE DIGIGEAR, which adds tooth engagement without shrinking the teeth, in a version with even wider teeth.

I hesitated over the higher-end 25 Tierra IC 150H-C. Its drag is 7kg. Strong. Even so, the 26 is 40g lighter and JPY 25,800 cheaper. For inshore jigging and tai rubber, 5kg of drag should be enough in most situations.

Decided. My pick is the 150H. With its 70mm single handle that is easy to jig with, this is what I choose as a first counter reel.

150H or 150H-DH: which to choose?

The difference is the handle. The 150H has a 70mm single handle for fishing with powerful winding, such as SLJ and light jigging. The 150H-DH has a 130mm double handle, set up for fishing that keeps a steady retrieve, such as tai rubber.

The knobs differ too. A small detail: the single gets the Power Light Knob LL with improved feel, and the double gets the Power Light Knob MM that is easy to hook a finger on. The weight gap is only 5g.

Why does a longer handle make winding lighter?

A handle is a lever. When winding the same load, the force your hand needs is inversely proportional to the arm length. 70 ÷ 130 = about 0.54, so by my calculation a 130mm handle turns with roughly half the force of a 70mm one.

In exchange, the circle your hand travels per crank gets bigger: 140mm vs 260mm in diameter. A short arm for quick jerks, a long arm to wind lightly and steadily even at gear ratio 7.1. That is why Daiwa offers two handles.

vs 25 Tierra IC and Kohga IC?

25 Tierra IC 150H-C270g9 / 17kgJPY 73,800
26 Kohga IC 150H235g6 / 15kgJPY 49,300
Light Game RX IC 150H245g5 / 15kgJPY 27,200
As listed on Daiwa's official Japanese pages on Oct 18, 2026. List prices excl. tax. Bearings are ball/roller counts. Gear ratio is 7.3 on the RX IC 150H (83cm per crank) and 7.1 on the other three (80cm per crank). The Kohga IC 150H has a 130mm handle.

vs the 25 Tierra IC 150H-C: For JPY 25,800 more you get 3 more bearings and 2kg more drag. If you expect big blue-water fish, take the higher model. Inshore, the 26 is plenty.

vs the Kohga IC 150H: The numbers are nearly the same, and the 26 Tierra is JPY 1,300 cheaper. The Kohga is designed for tai rubber only; the Tierra is set up for everything from jigging to ika metal (squid metal jigging).

vs the Light Game RX IC: The RX IC is JPY 20,800 cheaper but 15g heavier, with one fewer bearing. The 26 Tierra has Hyper Double Support, which holds both ends of the small gear with two bearings, so it winds lightly even under load.

How many cranks to retrieve 100m?

100m is 10,000cm. The 150H takes 10,000 ÷ 80 = 125 cranks. The 150-DH takes 10,000 ÷ 70 = about 143 cranks, 18 more. If you want fast retrieves, take the H.

The counter works in 10cm steps and also shows sink speed and retrieve speed. The battery is a CR2032 that you can change yourself with a coin, and removing it does not make you re-enter the line data.

Things to watch

This part is so-so. Max drag is 5kg, short of the higher model's 7kg. If you use thick PE in waters with big blue-water fish, the 25 Tierra IC or a 300 size is another way to go.

Who is the 26 Tierra IC 150H for?

  • Anglers who want to fish SLJ and light jigging while watching the depth
  • Anglers who want the same reel for tai rubber and ika metal too
  • Anglers looking for a counter reel under JPY 50,000

If you focus on tai rubber, compare the 26 Kohga TW 80 review; to keep the price down, the Light Game X review.
