The Sea Cool Carry III is a Daiwa 25L cooler with wheels released in Sep 2026. List price is JPY 26,800–39,800 (excl. tax). If you carry it by train or boat, the GU2500 is the pick.

The Gear Nerd's Pick

The heart of the III is that it puts the anti-slip Funbaruman feet on every grade. A box on casters tends to move on a rocking boat or a train floor. Now it is a box that stays put underfoot, so I recommend the III most to anglers who carry it a long way.

Key points

  • Released Sep 2026. JPY 26,800–39,800 (excl. tax)
  • Anti-slip Funbaruman feet on every grade
  • The GU is 0.4kg heavier than the S, and KEEP is 5 higher

When is the Sea Cool Carry III out, and what does it cost?

It goes on sale in Sep 2026. Capacity is 25L on all of them, and there are 3 grades with different insulation: S2500, GU2500 and SU2500. List price is JPY 26,800–39,800 (excl. tax).

As listed on Daiwa's official Japanese pages for the Sea Cool Carry III and II on Oct 18, 2026. List prices exclude tax. Inner size 15 × 38.5 × 31cm, outer size 33 × 53.5 × 38.5cm (39cm high for the SU). The lid insulation is polystyrene on all of them.

How I judged it

As someone who likes reading spec sheets side by side, the first thing I looked at was the steps between the 3 grades. From S to GU it adds 0.4kg and KEEP goes up 5; from GU to SU it adds 0.2kg and goes up another 5.

Dividing by price makes the gap clear. Per point of KEEP, the S2500 is 26,800 ÷ 60 = JPY 447, the GU2500 is 32,400 ÷ 65 = JPY 498 and the SU2500 is 39,800 ÷ 70 = JPY 569.

I wavered, but my pick is the GU2500. It costs only JPY 5,600 more than the S, steps up cold retention by 1 level and is lighter than the SU. If I had to pick 1 for day-trip fishing, it would be this.

What changed from the II?

The answer is underfoot. The III comes with the anti-slip "Funbaruman" feet fitted from the start on every grade. The box is harder to move on slippery floors such as on a boat or a train. Plain. But it works.

Box size, weight and KEEP values are the same as the II. The carry handle extends up to about 87cm, the quiet casters spare you worry early in the morning or late at night, and the one-handed lid is unchanged. Colors change to new ones such as sage and lilac.

Prices rise by JPY 2,600–3,000 per grade. Counted as the cost of the anti-slip feet, I find the gap fair. If it removes both the hassle of finding and fitting separate anti-slip parts later and the worry of a box that shifts underfoot, I think the rise is cheap.

What number is KEEP?

KEEP is Daiwa's yardstick for how long ice lasts. A block of ice equal to 25% of the box's capacity is put in a 40°C room for 8 hours, and from the share of ice left it is converted into the time until the ice melts completely. It is a value based on a simplified JIS method.

The number is a guide to cold retention and differs from the actual time. It changes with how often you open the lid and the outside temperature, so read it as a value for lining boxes up on the same yardstick.

What fits in 25L?

It is a size that takes a lunch box, convenience-store block ice, plastic bottles and small items, and also the fish you catch. I read it as a box designed mainly for day trips on breakwaters, boats and sea fishing parks.

Optional items widen its use. Lay down the CP Sunoko Tray and it reaches a height where 500ml bottles stand upright. To secure luggage on top, use the CP Luggage Net or the CP Shoulder Belt 150S. The protective part on the caster side has a hanger for plastic bags or a bottle holder.

I also worked out the ratio of capacity to weight. The GU2500 is 25 ÷ 4.6 = about 5.4L per kilogram. For a box you carry, a plain, reasonable number.

How do I choose among the 3 grades?

If you carry it by train for a long time and want it light, the S2500. At 4.2kg it is the lightest of the three, and the price is kept down too. Easy to carry.

If heat from the floor bothers you on breakwaters, rocks or boats, the SU2500. It has one vacuum panel in the base, so it takes in less heat from the ground.

The one in the middle is the GU2500. If unsure, start here. All three are designed small enough for a ticket gate, so you can choose by the balance of cold retention and weight.

Things to watch

This part is so-so. The lid insulation is polystyrene even on the SU. The lid is the weak point. For long stretches in the midsummer sun, a higher class with vacuum panels on all 6 sides fits better.

25L is a day-trip size. An overnight trip is tough. After block ice and bottles, leave room for the fish you catch.

Who is it for?

  • Anglers who go to breakwaters and sea fishing parks on foot or by train
  • Anglers who want the box not to slide even on a boat
  • Anglers who want to stack a bakkan bucket or luggage on top and carry everything in one go down the long road from the parking lot to the fishing spot

To compare with other boxes around 20L, five are lined up in our ranking of 20L coolers. Reels for breakwater use are collected in our ranking of size 2500 spinning reels.

Release dates for other new gear are in the fishing gear release calendar.
