The Morethan bait models are 3 rods added in Sep 2026. If unsure, take the 95MLMB, which casts lures of 7–40g. List price JPY 76,000–81,500 (excl. tax).
The Gear Nerd's Pick
The 95MLMB has the widest lure range of the bait models and still keeps the weight at 143g. The 93LMLB tops out at 30g and the 104MB weighs 162g, so both suit narrower situations. So for a first rod, I choose the 95MLMB.
Key points
- Released Sep 2026. JPY 76,000–81,500 (excl. tax)
- The three bait rods weigh 130g, 143g and 162g
- Lure maximums of 30g, 40g and 50g, and different lengths
When are the Morethan bait models released? How much?
Released in Japan in September 2026. Three baitcasting rods joined Daiwa's Morethan sea bass series: 93LMLB, 95MLMB and 104MB, at a list price of JPY 76,000–81,500 (excl. tax).

| 95MLMB | 2.87m | 143g | 7-40g | PE #0.6–1.5 | JPY 78,000 |

How I judged it
I love comparing spec sheets, and the first thing I checked was how lure range pairs with weight. The three look alike at a glance, but where you would use each one is clearly different.
The 93LMLB tops out at 30g. Great with light lures, but it has little headroom for heavy plugs. The 104MB is long at 3.15m, and at 162g it is the heaviest of the three. The 95MLMB casts 7–40g and still weighs only 143g.
The price gap is just JPY 2,000. At that gap, I can't find a reason not to take the 95MLMB and its wider lure range. My pick is the 95MLMB.

- 93LMLB: 5–30g. The lightest of the three, for anglers who want to work light minnows and sinking pencils carefully
- 95MLMB: 7–40g. The core model that handles any lure. If unsure, take this
- 104MB: 10–50g, 3.15m. For distance, and for anglers using heavier lures
All three use the series' SVF Compile X Nano Plus blank. Built slim with thick walls, it aims for accurate casts, good lure control, and staying power once a fish is on.
Daiwa Morethan 93LMLB

I calculated how heavy a lure each rod can cast for its own weight. The formula is "lure maximum ÷ weight".
| Model | Formula | Per gram of rod |
|---|---|---|
| 93LMLB | 30g ÷ 130g | 0.23g |
| 95MLMB | 40g ÷ 143g | 0.28g |
| 104MB | 50g ÷ 162g | 0.31g |
The long 104MB is the most efficient, but 162g is a weight your wrist will feel. If you cast all day, put balance in hand first.
Daiwa Morethan 104MB
Lowest price on Rakuten: JPY 68,698 (as of Oct 17). Some stores go up to JPY 80,685. Prices change daily.

The Morethan already has 12 spinning rods. I compared weight and price for pairs of similar length.
- 93LMLB vs 93ML/M: 130g vs 127g, a 3g gap. JPY 76,000 vs JPY 73,000, a JPY 3,000 gap
- 104MB vs 103ML/M: 162g vs 144g, an 18g gap. JPY 81,500 vs JPY 81,000, a JPY 500 gap
Spinning numbers are from the official page on the same day (excl. tax); the gaps are my calculations.
At the short 93 length, the bait version weighs almost the same: 3g more. The long 104MB is 18g heavier than its spinning sibling.
The strengths of a bait setup are the steady feel in hand with thin line, and accuracy in placing a lure exactly where you aim. My split: spinning if you want to fish light lures over wide water, bait if you pick off pinpoint spots.
Daiwa Morethan 93ML/M
Lowest price on Rakuten: JPY 62,012 (as of Oct 17). Some stores go up to JPY 73,800. Prices change daily.

This part is so-so. It starts at JPY 76,000 (excl. tax). The spinning 83L/ML is JPY 67,000, so even within the series the entry price differs by JPY 9,000.
And 1 more thing: you need a separate baitcasting reel. Daiwa's new Morethan TW PE is JPY 68,100 (excl. tax), so rod plus reel tops JPY 140,000. Choose the reel first, then the rod, and the total becomes clear.
When wading or fishing the surf, take real care with footing and waves. Check your equipment against the guidance of the Japan Coast Guard and each maker.
Who are the Morethan bait models for?
- Anglers who already own bait tackle and want to add a sea bass rod
- Anglers who want to decide exactly where the lure lands
- Anglers who want to use a wide range of lures from 7 to 40g (95MLMB)
The matching reel from the same series is covered in the Morethan TW PE review. To compare sea bass rods, see the 9.6 ft sea bass rod ranking.
For a 60.5g lure, see the Burst Upper 180F review; for Shimano's rock-shore rod, the 26 Exsence Genos review.
If you are starting sea bass fishing without a baitcasting reel, spinning gear is easier to put together. If you mostly use light lures around 5g, there are other ways to choose.
Release dates for other new gear are in the fishing gear release calendar.
